Manufacturing Engineer

Department: Manufacturing

Reports to: General Manager

Classification: Exempt                                      

AGCO-Amity JV, LLC is accepting applications for a results-driven Manufacturing Engineer to join our team.  Reporting to the General Manager, the Manufacturing Engineer is an integral part of the leadership team.

Job Summary

The Manufacturing Engineer will play a key part in conducting manufacturing engineering assignments in conformity with sound engineering principles, policies, and controls to develop new methods, processes, and product designs to resolve quality, cost and safety issues in manufacturing. Additionally, the Manufacturing Engineer will focus on working with Design Engineers on New Product Introduction (NPI) processes to optimize cost, quality, and manufacturing time of new products.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead projects to improve worker productivity and production output, quality and safety by improving manufacturing capabilities, including methods, processes, machine designs, tooling and fixtures, equipment, new manufacturing technology and performance measurement systems.
  • Analyze engineering designs, manufacturing processes and machine utilization, material routing and handling methods, tool design and application, etc. to seek improvement and effect changes to reduce cost and increase output.
  • Act as project leader/liaison and coordinate activities with manufacturing production departments and design engineering departments.
  • Be “voice of manufacturing” on product development teams, conducting print and design reviews with focus on improving the manufacturability of designs and determining optimum manufacturing methods.
  • Develop/write manufacturing processes/procedures/work instructions and routings and communicate to all affected personnel on the shop floor as well as train operators on the product and safe implementation of process changes with focus on incident prevention.
  • Improve workflow throughout the plant, including time and motion analysis, methods, process engineering and plant layout to ensure balanced methods and optimized flow.
  • Design load/shipping configurations, packaging, skids, etc. utilizing CAD programs.
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge about manufacturing processes, methods, equipment and tooling.
  • Initiate, support, and implement improvement ideas to improve productivity and reduce costs to achieve annual goals.
  • Lead and participate in kaizen events for continuous improvement projects focused on safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Provide timely response and resolution to safety, quality, and production issues.
  • Facilitate process improvement teams and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Work in conjunction with the facility's management to complete risk and safety assessments.
  • Other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • A 4-year degree in Engineering, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering and/or five years engineering experience in heavy manufacturing environment is required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Must be proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Technical competency in steel fabrication, welding, machining, or paint finishing and thorough knowledge of manufacturing and quality processes is also required. 
  • 3-D CAD knowledge required, Creo and Windchill are preferred.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical manuals and procedures, drawings, fabrication documentation and lengthy correspondence. 
  • Communicate in an effective, professional manner to facilitate teamwork, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. 
  • Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. 
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently and to organize and prioritize tasks to meet required deadlines.
  • Team player with the ability to provide leadership for change and improvement.
  • Ability to create buy-in and drive cultural changes with all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent analytical/problem solving, time management, and project management skills.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct reports however is responsible for leading manufacturing improvements and methodologies in plant with approximately 100 hourly and salaried employees.

Work Environment

This position is based in Wahpeton, ND and generally operates in a manufacturing environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. The employee is also exposed to a variety of extreme conditions in the work environment. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Creates prototypes for beta testing and for customer demonstration to ensure feasibility of product.
  • Leads in reviewing vendor capability to support product development and makes recommendations on product specifications and component selection.
  • Researches new technology or products to recommend and/or introduce modifications and/or advances to current systems, products and methods.
  • Maintain documentation associated with engineering change orders, bills of material, detailed CAD models and associated component drawings

Preferred Experience 

  • Planter, Sprayer and Tillage equipment design.
  • Experience with data collection systems for use in strain gage testing.
  • Understanding of hydraulic systems.
  • Understanding of modern farming practices.
  • Understanding the application of electronics on modern farm machinery, control modules, guidance systems, variable rate seeding and fertilizer application.
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis.

Sales Operations Manager

Reports to: Vice President of Sales & Marketing

Job Summary

The Sales Operations Manager acts as a liaison between sales, marketing and manufacturing operations, providing Wholegoods management support, field inventory management and retail sales and program processing in support of internal S&OP process.

Position Expectations

  • Be the primary Wholegoods and Attachment order contact person within the Sales and Marketing department.
  • Effectively manage orders, including order entry and slotting for production, along with managing and executing change requests and transfers to facilitate revenue goals in balance with retail sales and manufacturing requirements.
  • Improve wholegoods sales with timely information and responses to increase dealer/customer satisfaction.
  • Support internal S&OP process, operations reviews and forecasting needs and by communicating sales, order and retail information.
  • Be the primary record management person for retail sales, field inventory and order records, maintaining the company data records and reporting with regular communication within company and dealer network.

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Communicate Wholegoods and Attachment availability to dealer and field sales personnel.
  • Verify and communicate order changes and field transfer requests to dealers and field sales team.
  • Act as primary Sales/Marketing representative in the Sales & Operations Planning function within the company, including wholegoods forecasting of quantities, specification and timing, to meet company revenue and cash management objectives.
  • Prepare monthly sales and order records reports as needed.
  • Manage and communicate wholesale order writing program objectives and results in support of the S&OP process to meet company objectives.
  • Develop, manage and distribute Wholegoods and Attachment price pages semi-annually.
  • Provide interpretation and adherence to sales & marketing programs and policies.
  • Process and audit dealer incentive and salesman bonus requests for applicability and authorize payment.
  • Determine and communicate customer shipping requirements to meet production shipping objectives, supplying serial numbers as appropriate.
  • Develop and drive continuous improvements in sales, marketing programs and order management processes.
  • Be proficient in ERP system usage and assist others with data mining needs as required.
  • Responsible for Trade Association (AEM) and industry statistics reporting.
  • Manage Company Sales Consignment Inventory and Show unit inventory accounts, minimizing number of units needed to meet Sales/Marketing objectives.
  • Communicate to and train company sales personnel and Dealer sales people on product knowledge and applications to increase sales and customer satisfaction as needed.
  • Support key marketing events, trade shows and media events.
  • Support Technical Service and Customer Service with parts/accessory sales as needed.
  • Act as “Voice of the Customer” for wholegoods and accessories throughout the organization.
  • Maintain knowledge of company’s agricultural tillage and seeding equipment
  • Other duties as required

Qualification requirements

Education and/or Experience

Minimum 3-5 years experience in parts sales/marketing, product support or comparable of agricultural or heavy equipment. BS/BA in Agriculture or Business is preferred or equivalent experience. Experience in computer systems (ex. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, other business management software) and ability to learn Fourth Shift ERP systems.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technology requirements, financial reports, general business periodicals, and government regulations.  Ability to write reports and business correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information, respond to questions, and solve problems with groups of employees at all levels in the organization.

Reasoning Ability

Mechanically minded and knowledge of agricultural products/machinery with ability to solve difficult problems presented by the dealer/customer by defining problem, collecting data, developing solutions, and drawing valid conclusions.   Ability to make decisions and to assume responsibility for the results of decisions made.

Skills/Abilities

Ability to work effectively with other people. Ability to work independently and to organize and prioritize tasks to meet required deadlines.  Ability to accept constructive criticism and work well under pressure.  Attention to detail.  Strong ability to communicate effectively through different media (phone, fax and internet) - phone support representing approximately 50% of communications.  Limited travel could be expected.
